Currently sitting as quite easily the most successful feature he's ever had the honour of being a significant part of, it may come as a bit of a shock to hear that Tom Cruise wasn't actually always a big fan of stepping back into the boots of Maverick.

In fact, as director Joseph Kosinski would hilariously discover himself upon touching down in Paris to pitch the idea of heading back into the "Danger Zone" with Cruise and co., the acting legend "really didn't want to make another 'Top Gun," so the eventual sequel-helmer had just 30-minutes to convince him otherwise.

It was here, in-between set-ups for Cruise's shoot on an incoming Mission: Impossible flick, where the director went into overdrive, with Kosinski describing it as "one of those moments as a director, you have one on every film, where you're on the spot to make a case for why this movie should be made."

Thankfully, his 30 minutes of high-speed selling more than did the trick, with Cruise being said to have picked up the phone straight after Kosinski had finished his pitch and telling Paramount Pictures, "We're making another Top Gun."

There's movie stars. And then there's Tom Cruise, folks.
