While the idea of assembling an absurdly star-studded cast to bring to life a gripping thriller on the big screen may seem like a bit of a no-brainer in theory, the reality of gathering together a collection of actors including the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges for Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale was a potentially rather expensive one.

So, in order to get around the incoming obstacle of staggering wages getting in the way of his chosen neo-noir baby, Goddard had to resort to some rather unexpected measures to keep costs as low as possible.

Highlighting just how eager the folks involved already were to get to grips with Goddard's tale of one fateful night at the titular hotel, the director and the cast themselves all agreed to take a pay cut in order to be given the freedom to "take big creative bets" when forging this unsettling story.

But even with the film ultimately only costing around $32 million, its eventual haul of just $31.9 million likely didn't do Goddard any favours in the long-run, with the director still yet to commit to another big screen feature since his critically well-received Bad Time at the El Royale arrived on the scene in 2018.
