10 Genuine Lessons Batman V Superman Can Learn From Batman & Robin
2. Deal With The Negative Hype Before It's Too Late
The Mistake Batman And Robin Made: Batman & Robin was one of the first films to be killed by the internet. Rather than waiting for new films to arrive and having their say with their money, fans could look into the development process and mouth off about anything like didn't like. Site likes Ain't It Cool News were quick to crucify Batman & Robin, criticising the film at length in the months leading up to release (although much of the ire did embarrassingly come from Joel Schumacher's sexual orientation). Of course, the world wide web was still in its infancy, with Hollywood not yet fully understanding how impactful it could be and thus Warner didn't think much of it until it was too late. The film came out and thanks to the internet it became quickly apparent it was a dud. Welcome to the new age of fan-based movie-making. Will Dawn Of Justice Learn The Lesson? In case you haven't noticed, there's been some scepticism over whether Batman V Superman will be any good. It may not be as all pervasive as it was with Batman & Robin, but as the whole blockbuster genre is heavily internet-obsessed, throwing out teaser after trailer after pointless news story to keep fans engaged, the sizeable distaste isn't great given how dangerous bad word-of-mouth can be (just look at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Green Lantern). Warner Bros. need to do something drastic to side-step this. That promised trailer needs to be something really special.
