10 Genuinely Awesome Scenes In Otherwise Awful Movies

1. Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines - John Connor Accepts His Destiny

terminator-3-rise-of-the-machines-148536l-imagine Did anyone really expect Terminator 3 to be as good as the previous films? The best thing I can say for T3 is that was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I understand the logic behind Kristanna Loken€™s T-X; we had the muscle-bound man with Arnie and then the unassuming small guy Robert Patrick and now were getting something different in the form of a beautiful woman, who would want to run away from her? Sadly however it did not work, the T-X was never as compelling as its predecessors and because of that it was far more difficult to stay invested in the hero€™s attempts to defeat it. This in combination with some other problems means that T3 is nowhere near as good as the first and second films. At the end of the film though, we finally see the moment that this entire franchise is built upon. Skynet takes control and starts judgement day. Having spent his entire life trying to run away from his destiny, John Connor realises that time is finally up. As he and Kate Brewster discover that her father has sent them to a fallout shelter, a voice is heard coming from a radio, then Connor answers the person and seemingly starts the resistance. This is such a vital moment and is a fine example of how you show progression in characters without the need for exhaustive dialogue. John and Kate are devastated, they have only just managed to escape from the T-X-and thought they had a chance to prevent judgement day, which of course they didn€™t. Then we hear the call for help, the call that John Connor has been hoping to avoid his entire life. Though they were contemplating suicide by letting a bomb go off, from the moment they hear that, voice everything changes. Without either actor saying a word to each other we can tell exactly what the two characters are thinking. Connor knows that this is it, he and Kate don€™t need to discuss it, he needs to lead the resistance so he answers the voice and accepts his destiny. If you have seen the next film in the series then you will know that this development is hampered by the inexplicable decision to start with Connor as soldier rather than the leader. It was unnecessary; this moment perfectly explains how he would come to lead the resistance, he may have been a whiney idiot for most of T3 but with this scene we are given a clear transition to what John Connor needs to be.
