10 Genuinely Terrifying Scenes Trapped In Terrible Horror Movies

4. The Spine-Burster - Alien: Covenant

After Prometheus garnered a mixed reception from both fans and critics, Ridley Scott announced that he'd be helming a proper Alien movie that would be a continuation of the franchise's admittedly underdeveloped story.

You can only imagine the reaction in cinemas when this was revealed to be a lie, and Covenant was in fact a sequel to Prometheus that wallowed in dull philosophical nonsense instead of delivering on the gore-soaked Xenomorph action that the trailers and posters had promised.

That said, the now infamous Spin-Burster scene managed to grab the naysayers by the throat and make them pay attention.

Much like the original Alien, Covenant has its crew of soon-to-be fodder come into contact with a parasitic alien lifeform that gestates within a human host before bursting out through their back.

The sheer intensity of the scene more than rivals the original Alien's iconic chest-bursting scene, only this time around it's much more frenetic and intense, with plenty of kinetic energy that really heightens the suspense. It's just a shame that once this scene is over, the film takes a sharp left-turn into being a Prometheus sequel and the Xenomorph that we were promised is relegated to a glorified cameo at the end.
