10 Ghastly Movie Kisses We Wish We Could Unsee

7. Planet of the Apes

When Tim Burton€™s remake of Planet of the Apes came out back in 2001, most critics hated it, although I was one of the few who enjoyed it at the time (I was a lot younger then, cut me some slack!). One thing I do happen to remember NOT enjoying was the awkward face-smash of Marky Mark and Helena Bonham Carter hidden under an ape suit.

Part of the reason this €œkiss€ was so repulsive was due to the screenwriters not establishing much of a believable romantic connection between Leo (Wahlberg) and Ari (Carter). They seemed to have been mostly surviving together and not really growing closer to one another. The other reason? Mark Wahlberg kisses a GODDAMN APE.

It€™s hard to feel any emotion during this scene since Mr. Burton treated the film with a hefty dose of camp, so instead of witnessing a moment that could have been oddly endearing, we€™re forced to battle our gag reflex one-on-one.
