10 Giant Movie Myths (And The Truth Behind Them)

7. The MGM Lion Killed Its Owners

The Myth: Lions are cool, but they're not cuddly or cute. If the rumours surrounding the world-famous MGM lion are to be believed, then every time you see that company logo when watching an MGM film, you're actually seeing a murderer. Various rumours still persist that the MGM lion actually mauled its owners to death while others suggest that it killed various numbers of robbers that tried to break into the MGM studios. The Truth: None of it is true, fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how much you hate thieves). Aside from the fact that there is no singular MGM lion (several lions have been used for the logo), there has never been a single recorded case of any employees of MGM being mauled, eaten or even chased by anything so much as resembling a lion. Furthermore, the version that states the lion killed its trainer was actually found to be a rumour started on Factropolis.com.
