10 Glorious Examples Of Overacting in Movies
10. Jim Carrey Liar Liar I suppose that if you look at it, Jim Carreys entire career has been one long instance of overacting, tempered by work with Charlie Kaufman and the risible The Number 23 (seriously, watch that film its almost stupendously awful). But nothing, nothing took the biscuit like Liar Liar. Honestly, it has to be seen to be believed. Theres just an absolute goldmine of ridiculousness here from the rubber-faced loon. Because hes a lawyer and his job is lying, whens hes forced to tell the truth all sorts of carnage ensues. But what carnage Carrey has something of a rubber face, and the chap certainly gets the full use out of it here. In fact, dont take my word for it behold this video below. Look at him. Look at that god of a man. Hes saying more than you could ever say, and hes doing it while moving like an octopus cartwheeling down a staircase. Hes just gurning hes not even on to big words yet, but here he is, flopping around like a fish on a line. Its actually astounding. But nothing beats when he wants to test himself on whether he can actually lie, and turns to a blue pen for inspiration. The amount of ACTING going on in this is absolutely insane hes talking to an anonymous object yet manages to absolutely destroy himself doing it. Its practically a marvel of modern science that a man can act this hard and not injure himself, but somehow Carrey manages the impossible. Its almost insane, but I guess if that word had to apply to anyone, it would be to Carrey. There is nothing he can say in this film which is at all sincere, and thats just tremendous.
