5. Don't Have Sex
The slasher films of the late 70s and 80s firmly established that having sex while a maniac is on the loose with kill you. For whatever the reason, the world of horror just hates it when two people bump uglies and feels the need to punish them for giving in to their carnal pleasures. Theres a kind of disturbing poetry in corrupting an act of love with an act of violence, and perhaps horror villains realize this. Of course, the characters tempt fate by insisting on doing the deed in the strangest of environments, practically begging for the killer to intervene. Places that would be turn offs to a sane individual, such as forests, barns, and morgues, are inexplicably aphrodisiacs in horror films, giving the killer an open invitation. Abstinence may not completely secure ones survival rate, but it most certainly increases the odds, yet horror movie characters continue to forget to this day and continue to pay for it.
