7. Warrior
Ok, so this ones a cheat Warrior does feature a final act centred on Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton beating the snot out of each other. And, being honest, it works perfectly well the fight is an unpredictable back-and-forth affair, features good character moments and the good-lord-that-must-hurt sight of Hardy having his shoulder dislocated. However, I would argue that this isnt really a final act its the climax to the film, sure, but we shouldnt ever get those two things mistaken. Really, the film left so much hanging Hardys Tommy had a badly underwritten relationship with his father Paddy (played by an Academy Award-nominated Nick Nolte) which never quite came to fruition, but these were the lesser of the plotline casualties. On top of his relationship with his father, Tommy had a strange relationship with the wife and daughter of the deceased marine colleague he was entering the tournament to provide for, and was up for charges after it was revealed he was a US army deserter. Yet instead of giving us any form of resolution, the film just cuts to black after the brothers make their way out of the stadium, leaving us confused. Hell, even Edgertons Brendan deserved some sort of proper arc, but he was cut off too. Absolutely baffling.
