5. The Adjustment Bureau
The Adjustment Bureau was based on a Philip K. Dick story The Adjustment Team, and can justifiably rank as one of the worst adaptations of the great mans work. Despite the considerable presence of leads Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, the whole thing was just a bit turgid and unconvincing as a romance. Yet it wasnt until its final act that the death knell was truly sounded for this tragic misfire of a film. All the way through the feature weve been told to fear the Adjustment men who appear to direct absolutely everything with a combination of fear and omnipotence. They dont stop, and they will chase down Damon and Blunts David and Elise forever to not change the timeline of David becoming President. So when theyre finally trapped by the men in suits who intend to force them apart, youre understandably worried. You dont know how theyre going to get out of this, but when they do, you wish they hadnt. The way they solve all their problems is with the power of love. Ill repeat that the goddamned power of love. David and Elise kiss, and God/the chairman decides to let them off the lobotomy he had planned for him. It was all a bit boggling, and a massive injustice to the source material.
