10 Good Movies That Completely Botched Their Final Act

6. Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

Another controversial choice, but I think even the most die hard Peter Jackson/Tolkien fan will agree that this conclusion was far too long-winded and inclined many of us to scream (in our heads, of course) "just end already!" Yes, the trilogy was an emotional rollercoaster, and yes, these are characters who we have all grown attached to and will miss profusely, and yes, everyone involved with the production probably didn't want it to end more than us mere fans, but there is such a thing as milking a film; especially one that already has a mammoth duration, even more so if you have watched the extended versions. All of the frustration begins when Frodo wakes up in slow-motion in a Middle-earth hospital (that was definitely too clean to be ran by the NHS) and all of his companions decide to meet him in slow-motion too, as Elijah Wood and his fellow Hobbits see it fit to writhe around on the bed and wail in happiness that makes them sound like they've all received a voiceover from Sloth out of The Goonies. And from then on you may as well simply watch Jackson at home in New Zealand, sat at his desk, stroking his thick, bushy beard, as he thinks aloud on how to end it. What should be the final shot? Which character should we see last? Granted, it must have been a difficult job to end one of the most groundbreaking cinematic franchises the world has ever and will ever see, but sometimes less is more, even if it is The Lord of the Rings.
