10 Great Actors Who Embarrassed Themselves In Film Musicals
9. Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkIQfm5y28w The sign of a good musical is being left with the tunes in your head for several days. This is the main problem with Sweeney Todd, a great story, cast and design but, for a musical, sadly lacking enough memorable songs. Johnny Depp in the title role is threatening, malevolent and brutish even if he his singing never gets beyond a David Bowie impression. Opposite him, however, Helena Bonham Carter makes him sound like Pavarotti. Trying her best, sadly she isnt up to the melodic requirements of the role and can do no more than chant through routines (for further evidence, see Les Miserables). Lord only knows why Tim Burton cast her... Oh, right.
