10 Great Actors Who Starred In Awful Movies
5. Thomas Haden Church As The Sandman In Spiderman 3
I have so many problems with Spiderman 3. It is a film that makes me really, really angry as someone who used to collect the comic books that they could have made such a hash out of the series (admittedly it never looked that great but after some cool Doc Ock moments in 2 I was hoping that there was an upswing).
Firstly, why couldn't the butler tell Harry Osborn BEFORE he started trying to kill Peter Parker that his father was in fact killed by his own glider?! I understand the need for servant discretion, but REALLY?!
Secondly why couldn't they get a guy to play Venom who looked big enough to play Venom?! Or at least re-imagine Venom enough so his mouth doesn't look ludicrous on his skull?
Thirdly why couldn't the writers think of a different story besides taking Mary Jane hostage again, and while we are on the subject, why couldn't the writers, directors and whoever else get some chemistry going between Messrs Maguire and Dunst?
Haden Church actually was the best thing out of the movie- injecting real depth and pathos into his character, and making his story seem truly believable as a guy who just made a lot of bad decisions.
Suffice to say though that the Sandman did not get enough time on screen and even if he did, he would not be able to salvage this train wreck of a film.
