Monsters is a dark and violent film, which has a surprisingly beautiful romantic side to it. The plot follows a cynical journalist named Andrew, who treks across a devastated Mexico. He attempts to survive the onslaught of an alien threat, to reach the US border, all while accompanied by his employee's daughter. As the pair work their way through the destructive land and horrifying threats, they bond and survive together.

Despite being based in Mexico and populated by American actors, the film was created and released by a British company, making it appropriate for this list.

Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able (the lead pair) have bountiful chemistry here, as their harsh environment is genuinely terrifying, and it's clear how much they need each other, creating a heartwarming centre inside this post-apocalyptic movie. It is a ton of fun, thanks to the incredibly inventive aliens and the charming dynamic between the lead characters.
