10 Great Cliffhangers That Left You Gagging For The Next Movie
10. Back To The Future
The 1980s is fondly looked back on as one of the greatest decades for thoroughly entertaining summer blockbusters. Audiences were treated to the second and third installments of the Star Wars franchise along with the Indiana Jones trilogy, and of course, the Back To The Future trilogy (one of the few franchises from the decade yet to be revived in recent years). The original Back To The Future film, starring Michael J. Fox as teenager Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as his friend, the eccentric inventor Dr. Emmett Brown, certainly made the most of the 1950s setting as Marty heads back in time to make sure his parents get together so he can be born, but it was the strong focus on interesting characters which really made it such a memorable film. It is the emphasis on familial problems which makes the cliffhanger to Back To The Future so compelling - having returned to his own time 1985 satisfied that he's sorted his past out, Marty is suddenly confronted with a frantic Doc Brown returning from the future to warn him about problems with his kids. As they jump into the time machine - which now has the ability to fly, of course - audiences were left hanging on a thread desperate to see what the future had to bring. Quite literally.
