9. Marlon Brando - The Freshman
Marlon Brandos defining role is perhaps as Don Corleone in Francis Ford Coppolas The Godfather. With that performance, it spawned numerous imitations, countless catchphrases, and a myriad of jokes. It was a role that transcended the film. That is why there is nothing more pleasurable than seeing Marlon Brando making fun of his most famous character by playing Don Corleone, I mean Carmine Sabatini, in 1990s The Freshman. Just the gall of the filmmakers had for approaching Brando for this role was fascinating as Brando is notorious for being difficult on sets especially late in his career. This is a role that allowed Brando to do what he did best, chew scenery. Playing opposite in this screwball comedy, Brando dons the persona of his famous role in which the film justifies by saying that Don Corleone was actually based on Carmine Sabatini. But Brando isnt hamming it up in this role. He is completely earnest as if he was still in a Godfather movie which makes it even more hilarious with the madcap plot involving a Komodo Dragon.
