Many promising directors such as Peter Jackson and Jordan Peele seem to start with horror debut films and Matt Reeves, director of upcoming movie The Batman, was no different.

However, the only difference was that Future Shock - of which he directed one segment alongside two other directors - was a disaster. The horror anthology film centring around a psychiatrist who uses virtual reality to probe the minds of three unsuspecting patients was a bad concept but was poorly executed by all.

The rest of the 90s saw Reeves struggle to make a name for himself as a film director and it was only the arrival of monster movie Cloverfield which gave him his big break. Whether Future Shock acted as a help or hindrance for Reeves' career is anyone's guess but he is now one of the hottest directors at the moment with the successful Planet of the Apes trilogy under his belt and his take on the caped crusader on the horizon.
