6. "No Effect On Target!" - (War Of The Worlds)
Soon after the point at which the military forces of Earth begin to fight back against the alien invaders, and immediately after the movie's protagonists have emerged from the water after their Hudson River ferry was attacked, they find themselves on a hill where the Marine Corps and the Air Force are battling the Tripods. When a soldier appears with some heavy artillery - a bazooka - hoping to finally breach the Tripod forcefields, he fires it directly at one of them. Another soldier then talks to an unseen authority figure over his radio to report on the outcome of the attempted attack. His exact words are "no effect on target! No effect!" This was the moment we realised the invaders were unbeatable by regular means, as they completely no-sold one of our most dangerous non-nuclear weapons with complete ease.
