5. School Ties - Brendan Fraser
I studied history in college, so I can appreciate a film that explores issues of anti-Semitism in American boarding schools, the WASP meccas of the world. It was definitely an ugly, pervasive problem that most people were willing to completely sweep under the rug and never speak about. But for the life of me, I don't understand why it needed to be Brendan Fraser. Don't get me wrong, Fraser's your guy if you need action or goofy comedy. Need to fight a mummy? Absolutely. But this kind of historical drama requires a defter hand. He just can't pull off the more serious moments, and the "COWARDS!" scene out in the rain is cringeworthy and all kinds of lame. This movie deserved to be made, and it really deserved to have a better leading man.
