5. My Dinner with Andre

Al Pacino Dog Day Afternoon
New Yorker Films

My Dinner With Andre is exactly what the title suggests: the entire two hours is just a conversation over dinner between two friends. Who wants to watch that?

Well, it actually ends up being so fascinating that you'll never want them to stop talking. Wally is a simple man with simple pleasures, while Andre is more of an intellectual, telling sweeping stories about his adventures around the world. Their dynamic is compelling, and both actors do an incredible job making these people seem like old friends. You can really see all the subtleties of a real, living relationship throughout the discussion, complete with the subtle tension between the two at several points.

But what begins as two friends catching up turns into an argument about the meaning of life which goes to some truly interesting places. It's a cathartic experience about finding one's own personal happiness, and it all comes about just through two guys sitting at a restaurant.
