10 Great Monster Movies You've Never Seen

Before bringing us 2014's underrated Godzilla and 2016's Rogue One, director Gareth Edwards brought us this little sci-fi treat.

After their passports are stolen, two strangers are forced to make their way through a quarantine zone inhabited by monstrous alien creatures in hopes of returning home.

Monsters is much more of a tone piece than a straightforward creature feature. This isn't to say that it's lacking in the monster department, but rather that the monsters work in tandem with the human characters instead of as a separate entity. They serve to function as a backdrop to two lost souls attempting to find their way together in a world forever changed by man's undying quest to discover extraterrestrial life.

Where the movie really excels in though is its world building. The quarantine zone resembles a post-apocalyptic wasteland of sorts, feeling reminiscent of something like Bethesda's Fallout video game series, but with a more grounded twist. You could envision a place like this truly existing in our world, lending a legitimacy to the film that makes it feel almost shockingly true to life.
