10 Great Movies With 100% Rotten Tomatoes Ratings You Probably Missed

7. Wake In Fright

A few years ago you'd be forgiven for not having seen Wake in Fright - for many years since its release Ted Kotcheff's incredible adaptation of Kenneth Cook's 1961 novel had a reputation as being Australia's great "lost film". Fortunately for fans of great movies, Wake in Fright has recently been issued on DVD and BluRay so there's no excuse for not getting hold of a copy yourself. It tells the story of a young schoolteacher who finds himself stuck in a small Australian town in the outback and finds himself getting caught up with the strange and brutal world of the locals. The searing cinematography which evokes the sweat-inducing desert landscapes as effectively as any film set in the outback compliments the stuffy, oppressive tension at the heart of the excellent script. This is a raw and uncompromising film about unbridled masculinity, while a fine performance from Donald Pleasance in a supporting role is the icing on the cake. A minor masterpiece and one which every film fan should see.
