10 Great Movies Starring The Office Cast
8. Obvious Child
While his run as Pete/New Jim won’t be too fondly remembered by Office fans, Jake Lacy is slowly carving out a cracking career for himself on the small and big screen alike. He nailed varied guest parts on Ramy and Mrs America, and has utilised all faucets of his pleasant-but-privileged look on High Fidelity and The White Lotus.
He’s making Hollywood moves too, but his finest big screen work is his debut in Obvious Child, the Jenny Slate-starring 2014 indie about unexpected pregnancy. Slate, known to Parks and Recreation fans as Mona-Lisa, plays a young stand up comedian who becomes pregnant by a one night stand (Lacy). She’s not in a position to be a mother, and has a tough decision to make. This is far less fairytale in its approach than Knocked Up or Juno, and features a seriously great performance from Slate.
Its core is still that of a romcom, though, and watching the leads’ relationship blossom in such circumstances is strangely beautiful. It’s a mature and purposeful but heartfelt film that’s well worth a watch.
