10 Great Movies Starring The Office Cast
6. Golden Arm
Golden Arm’s release was stymied by the pandemic - it skipped big screens altogether and made its way to VOD, where it picked up decent numbers and solid reviews. It feels in a way that this slow burn release is all part of a grand plan, though, because this bawdy, bizarre, and touching arm wrestling comedy was a cult classic in the making right from the off.
Picking its cast from the world of improv, it stars Mary Holland as a frustrated baker whose hours of kneading and rolling have left her with remarkable upper body strength. In pursuit of a $15,000 dollar prize, she embarks on a road trip to the arm wrestling nationals, her ramshackle life gaining meaning as she embraces this ludicrous world.
The film is packed with comedy stalwarts like Betsy Sodaro, Ron Funches, and Eugene Cordero. Most interestingly for Office fans, it features a typically brash performance from Kate Flannery, better known as The Office’s Meredith. She doesn’t stray too far from her signature role as a bartender/arm wrestler, but brings her improv experience to the fore to add laughs and her ineffable oddness.
Golden Arm is a distinct and original movie that’ll fly under the radar, but this will only make it all the more enjoyable for those in the know.
