10 Great Movies Starring The Office Cast

As The Office’s Dwight Schrute, Rainn Wilson pulls off an impressive balancing act, playing a cartoonish, arrogant man child who’s just on the right side of believable (for the most part) and somehow likeable. While The Rocker doesn’t provide nearly similar levels of nuance, though, the lead role is right in Wilson’s wheelhouse, and he takes the opportunity to run wild with gusto.

He plays Robert Fishman, a has-been rock drummer who finds himself hired as the percussionist for his nephew’s high school band. Another movie would present Fishman as a bitter, arrogant sort, but instead Wilson embraces the role with wild and wide eyed passion. It’s a sweet, good natured performance that mines laughs from broad silliness.

The cast is stacked with just-pre fame stars, like Emma Stone, Josh Gad, Jason Sudekis, and Aziz Ansari. It’s a generous movie that gives everyone a chance to shine, but ultimately this is down to Wilson’s exuberance. He’s a naturally funny guy with genuine acting chops, and takes even the silliest character seriously.

It was all for nought, ultimately, as the film sank at the box office, but it’s remembered nowadays more warmly than it was received at the time.
