10 Great Movies That Audiences Originally Hated

6. Fight Club

Batman Returns
Fox

Fight Club is still one of the most debated great movies of all time and while it is a great movie, audiences initially hated it. Hell, lots of people still very vocally hate it now.

The look of the film and the story itself are both raw around the edges; David Fincher consciously made an ugly film. That was entirely the point.

The film is appreciated more now thanks to the way it crystallizes the male ego that was so prominent in the 1990s. However, the film is dangerous for young men to watch because they often get the wrong message from the movie. However, when one steps back and looks at the director's intention, the real message becomes clear.

Fincher did not intend to make an army of Tyler Durden clones, but he did intend to bring to light a flaw in the personality he exists as in the story. Once you begin to understand that, it's a lot easier to love.
