10 Great Movies That Show How Stupid Politics Really Is

3. Team America: World Police

Not all political satire has to be subtle and nuanced in order to make its point - as Trey Parker and Matt Stone proved with the South Park series, puerility and gross-out humour can be just as effective when it comes to hammering home a point and mocking politics and culture with efficiency. Team America: World Police might have offended the North Korean leader with its depiction of him as a sad and lonely man acting out his megalomaniacal impulses to compensate for psychological shortcomings, but it was equally at home having a dig at the gung-ho, might makes right nature of imperialism. It's amusing to reflect on the release of Team America: World Police and the criticism Parker and Stone received for not criticising George Bush - they correctly pointed out at the time that he was too easy a target, with Stone saying, "If you want to see Bush-bashing in America you only have to walk about 10 feet to find it."
