10 Great Movies You Probably Missed (That You Can Now Catch On Netflix)

9. The Hitman's Bodyguard

Ryan Reynolds has had something of a career renaissance in recent years, and while The Hitman's Bodyguard is by no means his finest work, it's an enjoyable, lively action-comedy that might just have spawned one of the decade's best double-acts by pairing Reynolds with his foul-mouthed co-star Samuel L. Jackson.

The premise is simple: Jackson is the hitman, Reynolds is his bodyguard, and the latter must protect his VIP at all costs. The movie famously released in one of the quietest box-office periods on record last August, and those negative headlines definitely didn't help its appeal; the numbers prove that a lot of people chose to give this one a miss.

Still, it's worth checking out. The movie finely balances its action and its humour: there are plenty of set-pieces, but none outstay their welcome, and the jokes come at such a rapid pace that for every miss, you'll definitely find a hit or two. It's not solid gold, but it's immense fun, and you really can't go wrong if you're looking for some easy entertainment on a Saturday evening.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
