Hoo-boy, where to even start with this one?

It's fairly common knowledge at this point that the production of Alien 3 was an absolute nightmare. With numerous script re-writes and a then-unknown David Fincher being brought in at the eleventh hour to direct, it's amazing that the film ever got made. Once production did get underway, studio interference and hard-to-meet deadlines constantly loomed over the set, but that didn't stop Sigourney Weaver giving one hell of a performance.

Despite the ensuing chaos around her, Weaver managed to keep her head held high and give a dignified performance. Slipping back into the role of Ripley with relative ease, she brought a sense of balance to what is an otherwise very messy film.

The screenplay's darker material plunged Ripley into new depths of despair whilst battling the Xenomorph and allowed Weaver to delve even deeper into the character's psyche, showing her as a tortured and battle-weary heroine that must stand up and face the darkness once again.

Alien 3 may be one of the franchise's lowest points but Weaver is never anything less than captivating and her commitment to the role of Ripley is commendable considering how much further the series would sink.
