10 Great Performances In Otherwise TERRIBLE Horror Movies
2. Tim Curry - IT (1990)
For people of a certain age, the original adaptation of IT is the most terrifying thing ever committed to celluloid and the single biggest cause of mass childhood trauma. For the rest of us, however, it's a campy relic of a bygone era that has aged terribly and is a fairly poor representation of its source material.
Now don't get me wrong, it's not all bad, there's certainly more than a couple of great scenes and saving graces throughout its staggering three-hour run-time but nothing shines brighter than the truly sublime performance by the legendary Tim Curry.
Certainly not the first of his kind, Curry's interpretation of Pennywise has served as the default 'evil clown' trope that audiences have become accustomed to over the years, drawing constant comparisons whenever any grease-painted maniacs pop-up on the silver screen.
Few can even hope to hold a candle to Curry's unique brand of menace, his expert mix of jovial tomfoolery combined with deeply threatening snarls and movements make his rendition of Pennywise feel unpredictable and unruly, adding in a more human element compared to what we saw in Bill SkarsgÄrd's recent version of the creepy clown.
