10 Great Performances In Recent Horror Movies
5. Pierce Brosnan - False Positive
A middling but ambitious genre throwback, False Positive attempts to revive the long-dead genre of pregnancy horror first made famous by the likes of 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby. Here, young couple Lucy and Adrian struggle to conceive children on their own so turn to pioneering fertility physician Doctor John Hindle played by Pierce Brosnan. An uncomfortable - and oftentimes overly callous - journey of pregnancy, paranoia and gaslighting ensues.
Brosnan himself has had something of a lowkey revival of late, playing villainous roles in films like The Foreigner and Urge. His pedigree for more unsavoury performances has reached a pinnacle here. Brosnan imbues Hindle with subtle threat, convincingly hidden behind a veneer of medical professionalism, to the point where we the audience even begin to doubt ourselves about his intentions.
The quiet menace he brings this role stands head and shoulders above the rest of the movie. That being said, if you're a true genre hound (and have been missing the old 007's lovely face) you should definitely give this flick a go. Word of warning, maybe have a Pixar film queued up to cleanse the palate after the ending of this one.
