10 Great Scenes That Make The Star Wars Prequels Watchable

1.5 Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Sith Apprentice Darth Maul

Film: Episode 1 €“ The Phantom Menace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzQBB4YICwM&feature=related Arguably the scene all fans had waited decades for in terms of lightsaber dueling, this now-classic confrontation shows Liam Neeson€™s Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn honorably take up the challenge of confronting the first Sith the Republic has seen in hundreds of years. With his Padawan Learner Obi-Wan Kenobi in-tow, Jinn is impaled and killed by the Sith apprentice, leaving Kenobi to take up the challenge on his own. Having watched his master murdered before his eyes, Kenobi engages Maul and proceeds to slice him in half and send him to a presumable death. Why this scene is so notable aside from all of the saber-wielding action is the fact that it sets in motion the fate of young Anakin Skywalker: he is left to be trained by Obi-Wan, and granted entrance to the Jedi Academy by Masters Yoda and Windu. This could be conceived as a rash decision given it was made at Master Qui-Gon€™s funeral and upon the reveal that if there is a Sith apprentice, then there must be a Sith Lord as its master. Also of notable mention here is the amazing composition "Duel of the Fates" written by composer John Williams for this very scene, which has become as iconic in the Star Wars universe as the Imperial March itself. Martial artist and actor Ray Park absolutely owns the role of Darth Maul as well.

1. Anakin Skywalker Leaves His Home on Tatooine

Film: Episode 1 €“ The Phantom Menace This is the ultimate scene which defines the entire, present day Star Wars saga. In this moment, Anakin has become a freed slave, and then leaves his home on Tatooine, alongside Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, to be taken before the Jedi Council who will determine his future. In this extraordinary scene, all of the elements that make the Star Wars legacy so remarkable come together for one breath-taking moment: Anakin turns his back on his mother and embraces his destiny. The iconic John Williams musical score is perfection in this scene; it was as moving as it was magnificent. Fellow Star Wars fans, let's discuss! What did we get right and what did we get wrong???
