Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko is perhaps best known for his Night Watch series, which take place in a world where regular humans live alongside those with magical powers. Residents of this delightful place include werewolves, witches, golems, vampires, and, of course, shapeshifters

In 2004, the first book in the series (just called Night Watch) was made into a movie and brought all the wacky inhabitants of Lukyanenko's imagination to the big screen.

Anton Gorodetsky is part of a group of soldiers charged with keeping the super-powered humans, known as "Others", at bay, which becomes slightly awkward when he discovers that he is one of them. His journey takes him all across Moscow's dark underbelly, all whilst a mysterious prophecy plays out.

Whilst shapeshifters aren't the solitary focus of Night Watch, they still play a role in the story, most through a character called Katya who can turn into a tiger.

The film vastly exceeded all box office expectations thanks to huge success on the US home video market. It even got a sequel two years later, so if you enjoyed this world of dark fantasy, you know where to go to get your next hit.
