10 Great Zombie Horror Movies That Aren't Really About Zombies
7. JeruZalem
With a title like that, it's easy to assume two things. One, this is a movie set in Jerusalem, and two, it's about zombies. Technically, both are correct, but the latter is slightly less concrete than the former.
JeruZalem is a found-footage movie that follows a pair of American tourists on a trip to the titular city. However, they accidentally find themselves at the centre of the end of days as demons flood the city and spread possession through biting/scratching.
Naturally, there is plenty of overlap here, as it's easy to call these monsters zombies, but at the same time, they seem to be more of your garden-variety demonic entities. The movie even addresses this as a character (Kevin) discusses his belief that many mythological beasts are manifestations of the same evil.
By that logic, the likes of Golems, Djinns, Demons and, of course, zombies are all one and the same despite their vast differences. This makes it much easier to view the film as a zombie flick and paints a fascinating picture of how you can give zombie characteristics to many different types of beasts, including the demonic spawns of Hell.
