10 Greatest "Die Hard On A...." Movies
9. Sudden Death: Die Hard In A Stadium
It was inevitable that at some stage the high-kicking muscles-from-Brussels, Jean-Claude Van Damme, would take a crack at making a Die Hard style movie. The finest example of his output came with Sudden Death in which JCVD is a disgraced former fire-fighter who has now become a fire marshal for the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh.
During game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals (which, just for anyone not familiar with Ice Hockey, is a pretty big deal), a former CIA operative played by the inimitable Powers Boothe, takes the US Vice-President hostage and threatens to blow the building up unless he is wired hundreds of millions of dollars.
JCVD's Darren McCord has other ideas however and sets about using his in-depth knowledge of the arena to thwart the bad guys and save his own kids who have been taken hostage. There's plenty of elaborate stunts, claustrophobic spaces and a wonderful charismatic bad-guy turn from Boothe.
All that, plus the added bonus of JCVD beating the hell out of an bad guy hiding in a Penguin mascot outfit.
