10 Greatest Christ Figures In Film

8. Mufasa (The Lion King)

As is it wasn€™t good enough being the ruler of Pride Rock with a babe like Sarabi by his side, Mufasa also possesses several qualities that make him a leonine symbol of the Christian saviour. Firstly, Mufasa is overflowing with the wisdom and insight associated with Christ. It is he who imparts the €˜circle of life€™ idea onto Simba which should €“ at least in part €“ ease the grief of the wise lion€™s passing. Mufasa also demonstrates the self-sacrifice which is essential in making a Christ-figure as he loses his life saving Simba from the wildebeest stampede. Though he isn€™t actually resurrected, this isn€™t the last we see of the King of the Lions €“ he appears in the sky to preach even more of his knowledge to a misguided, juvenile Simba. Some of you may query why Disney€™s lion is on the list and the other notable film feline Christ-figure €“ Aslan of The Chronicles Narnia €“ isn€™t. Aslan may display more of the miraculous qualities we relate with Jesus but, in our opinion, Mufasa is infinitely more wise than C.S Lewis€™ war-loving cat.
