Klaatu is an alien who arrives on earth in a flying saucer and much like Jesus reveals himself to be a preacher who has come to deter us from our warmongering ways. Though Jesus didnt come down to Earth with a laser-wielding robot (what a nasty shock that would have been for Mary), Klaatu is arguably the character most blatantly intended to be a Christ-figure on this entire list. At times the parallels made between Christ and Klaatu are extremely apparent. For example, having escaped the clutches of American officials, Klaatu assumes the human alias Mr. Carpenter to go undetected this is, of course, an allusion to Jesus profession taught to him by Joseph. The sci-fi classics screenwriter Edmund H. North made no attempt to deny that Michael Rennies character was intended to represent an alien Christ:
It was my private little joke. I never discussed this angle with Blaustein or Wise because I didn't want it expressed. I had originally hoped that the Christ comparison would be subliminal. (Hostile Aliens, Hollywood and Today's News: 1950s Science Fiction Films)
In spite of the foul treatment he receives on Earth, Klaatu is willing to forgive us and attempt to save humanity from its penchant for violence. He is truly an other-worldly Jesus (guarded by a big, stainless-steel robot).
