10 Greatest Clint Eastwood Movies

4. Gran Torino (2008)

Gran Torino - edited for article Gran Torino stars Clint as Walk Kowalski, a bitter old Korean war veteran that is disgusted as foreigners 'take over' his neighbourhood, to the point that he's one of the only Caucasian Americans left. Things change when he inadvertently protects his Hmong neighbours from a gang - and eventually forms friendships with the teenage brother and sister. It is the second movie in this list that both Clint directed and starred in, and also the most recent in which he plays what is basically an action hero. That's right - Clint, having been born in 1930, was basically playing an action hero in 2008. Does it work? You're damn right it does. Every scene involving Clint is so compelling and I'm not sure that I have ever seen him act better than he does in Gran Torino. This movie would have made the top three if everybody else was even close to being as good as Clint. Unfortunately, they aren't. Some of the other actors in this movie are just awful (there were open casting calls for Hmong actors, only one had previously appeared in a movie and it really does show). Some of the scenes involving some of the other characters are borderline terrible - but a very strong final scene for Clint, especially when put into context with the rest of his career until that point, leaves a very powerful memory of this film. In fact, if I'm being honest, I never even noticed the acting of the other cast members the first time that I watched it. It's also Clint's highest grossing movie of all time, having earned around $270,000,000 at the box office.
