10 Greatest Comedic Cameos That Dominated Their Respective Films

2. Tom Cruise €“ Tropic Thunder (2008)

Robert Downey Jr. got plenty attention in Tropic Thunder for his portrayal of a very dedicated Australian actor who was so method, he went so far as to have the pigmentation of his skin altered to play an African American soldier in "the most expensive war film ever made". The other big performance in the film however was one that had far less screen time and was played by Tom Cruise. His good looks and typical A-list charisma are completely gone in favour of a bald cap, obscene amounts of chest hair and a fat suit. What we got was a Tom Cruise no one had ever seen before. As Les Grossman, Cruise shed every bit of his star persona in favour of a filthy, foul-mouthed and perpetually angry movie producer. Watching Grossman shout profanities at an utterly incompetent film director (Steve Coogan) is a ton of fun. But the defining moment is when he unleashes all verbal and vitriolic hell on 'Flaming Dragon', who's holding Ben Stiller hostage. The long string of profanities coming out of Cruise's mouth remains some of the most quotable lines in the entire film, to which he nonchalantly then asks Bill Hader "Would you find out who that was?" Ever since his role in Tropic Thunder, there's been talk of a Les Grossman spinoff movie. Not much is known about it, if it's even still happening. Based off of Cruise's performance in Tropic Thunder though, we're really hoping it is.
