10 Greatest Debut Films Of All Time

9. The Evil Dead

The debut feature that brought the film-going public things as amazing as shaky-cam, tree rape and Bruce Campbell's chin, The Evil Dead is one of the most successful independent films ever made and also one of the best horror movies of all time. Sam Raimi's story and direction are able to brilliantly walk the line between comedy and horror to an effect that has only been topped by Raimi's own Evil Dead 2. The Evil Dead is basically the best episode of The Three Stooges ever made while it also incorporates all of the most ridiculous elements of horror cinema. Raimi was able to horrify audiences by exposing the shrewdest cliches of the horror genre but also make them laugh harder than they would at any comedy made at the time. The film is basically what you get when you combine two genres that seem to be totally opposite but actually have more in common with each other than anyone could have ever imagined.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
