10 Greatest Directorial Debut Horror Movies
4. Jordan Peele - Get Out
Already well established in the entertainment industry with success in various comedy TV shows, Jordan Peele had never directed a feature film before Get Out, nor had he worked within the horror genre. No one expected Peele's directorial debut about an African-American male visiting his white girlfriend's parents to have such a huge impact as it did when it blew audiences away in 2017.
Get Out became one of the most successful and praised movies of the year both critically and commercially. Peele displayed a real talent for exceptionally layered writing, delivering a horror film that had something important to say, as many of the best ones do. The movie made such a huge cultural impact that it was actually nominated for two Academy Awards in 2018, winning the award for Best Original Screenplay, and garnering a nomination for Best Motion Picture. Get Out remains extremely relevant today, and is undoubtedly one of the most important horror films of the decade.
Since Get Out, Jordan Peele has released his second film, Us, which had an equally strong message on race and was well-received once again. Peele also continues to work on the revitalized version of The Twilight Zone. The director is working closely with Universal Studios for his next entry in the horror genre, expected in the next few years.
