10 Greatest Ever Minimalist Movie Posters

1. Blade Runner

Blade Runner Poster Again credit to Shoot the Glass for this brilliant minimalist poster, which is without question my favourite ever, both because of its intelligence and its sneakiness. At first glance, a scan over the poster simply reveals a block full of blue dots, yet if you peruse it closely, you'll see three teardrop shapes near the middle. Could it be, in fact, that this is a sly reference to Rutger Hauer's climactic speech in Blade Runner, when his Roy Batty utters the iconic death soliloquy, "All those...moments...will be lost in time, like tears...in...rain. Time...to die"? Of course! It's fantastic because even glancing at it for a few seconds, you could easily miss the teardrops in the middle (especially when scrolling with a mouse wheel, which causes the white to blend into the blue), at which point the poster seems like utter nonsense, and yet a closer inspection will make it all clear. One of the most riveting movie speeches of all time is accompanied by a fantastic poster paying tribute to it. Which minimalist movie posters are your favourites? Are there any that we missed?
