Dir. Nicholas Ray Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Gloria Grahame Humphrey Bogart plays Dix Steele, an alcoholic writer accused of murder. But he is cleared once his neighbour Laurel (Gloria Grahame) alibis him. The two begin to get to know each other and fall in love. But as Dix shows a violent temper, Laurel begins to wonder if he really were innocent€ If you€™ve read my previous article on classic movies, you might have gathered I€™m a huge Humphrey Bogart fan. His screen presence is unlike any other. Has any other leading man, before or since, has such a lived in face as Humphrey Bogart? Like Odd Man Out, this is a noir tragedy with a hell of an emotional climax. The use of a repeated line gets me every time. A brilliant movie with Humphrey Bogart at the top of his game. Key Line: Dix: How do you like this? €˜I was born when she kissed me, I died when she left me, I lived a few weeks while she loved me€™
