10 Greatest Film Trilogies Of All Time
6. The Evil Dead
What began as just Sam Raimi and his buddies heading out into the woods to practice their filmmaking chops has now evolved into one of the greatest cult horror series of all time, and Evil Dead more than deserves that distinction. More than any other trilogy on this list, the story of Ash Williams and his misadventures fighting the Deadites drastically evolves over the course of three films, practically changing tone and genre by the trilogy's conclusion.
The Evil Dead is mostly a straight-up horror film, with the comedy evolving more unintentionally from the movie's cartoonishly gory special effects. In Evil Dead II, horror and comedy compliment each other in every scene, making every moment as equally funny as it is scary. By Army of Darkness, the whole thing had become more of an action-comedy with horror elements, but it makes up for its lack of scares with some of the cheesiest but most quotable lines in cult cinema history.
Tying all of these films together is the undeniably magnetic Bruce Campbell as Ash, who delivers every line with a smug confidence that is instantly charming. The franchise still lives on today through both the 2013 remake and the TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead, but the original three films still represent the franchise as its best and are a must see for any horror fan.
