10 Greatest Film Trilogies Of All Time
5. Back To The Future
Of all the trilogies on this list, Back to the Future does the best job of telling a cohesive story over the course of three films. Though the jarring casting changes for George McFly and Jennifer Parker somewhat mar their unity, you could otherwise seamlessly watch them all back-to-back as if they were one movie and it would feel just as natural.
The Back to the Future trilogy still stands as one of the best and most iconic examples of time travel in popular cinema, playing with paradoxes and alternate timelines without bogging down the fun in complicated science. Though by the end of the trilogy they become somewhat tiring, they've also spawned some of the most quoted lines in cinema history.
When President Ronald Reagan is quoting your movie, you know you've truly entered the collective zeitgeist.
But what keeps Back to the Future together are the central characters of Marty McFly and Doctor Emmet Brown, making for an unconventional but instantly remarkable double act. The evolution of Doc and Marty over the series is a subtle but heartwarming journey to see progress over the three films, and Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox are basically irreplaceable in the roles.
No wonder no one has tried to get a remake of it off the ground.
