10 Greatest Films About Television

9. Galaxy Quest

Fewer films have been as surprisingly wonderful as the 1999 Star Trek-esque parody Galaxy Quest, which followed a cast of characters of a popular (cancelled) television show that are mistaken for real, intergalactic heroes. And, really, how can you lose with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, and Sam Rockwell? And while it's primarily a sci-fi comedy, it's all about a specific sect of television lore - namely, the audience and stars who just can't let go of the glory days. It's hilarious and clever, on-the-nose, and features some of the best Alan Rickman moments ever put on screen. It could have easily been a feature that got lost in the shuffle of films like Fight Club, American Beauty, and The Matrix (1999 was truly a great year for film), but luckily it got its deserved exposure. Oh, and at one point, it was supposed to be...quite naughty. But for now, enjoy the cast at their comedic best. http://youtu.be/JJ83r886Kyg

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
