10 Greatest Moments in 90's Juvenile Sports Cinema

1. Mighty Ducks 2: Julie's Miracle On Ice

Do you Believe in Miracles? So the love fest ends, with the greatest moment ever seen in 90's juvenile sports cinema. It's our miracle on ice. Children of the 80's had the original miracle when a group of amateur and collegiate U.S. players beat a vastly superior Russian team. It was a win that had heavy socio-political implications at the time, considering the toll the Cold War had taken on both countries. The U.S. win was cathartic; a release of tension and symbol of hope for the U.S. during those scary times. Children of the 90's didn't have the Cold War or anything like that on their plate. Just the age old stuff kids always deal with: being ignored, under appreciated, not taken seriously, etc. So when Julie "The Cat" Gaffney (played by Colombe Jacobsen) took to the ice and won the game for the Ducks, it may not have carried the same weight as the true Miracle on Ice, but it was a victory for kids everywhere. Kids who felt powerless to change their world, and the kids who felt like they didn't matter. The great thing about sports is that it offers kids a chance to shape and build their own legacies, independent from that of their parents, friends, or environment. Everything depends on their training, conditioning, and heart. It doesn't matter if its a solo or team sport; you still make the choice to contribute. Even if the team loses, you can still take heart; you did your best, played your part, and gave it your all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxJkAQFGEyo Fortunately the Ducks were a team that gave their all. They were taught by coach bombay to be who they are and not let the actions of others dictate their decisions. So when you see Julie Gaffney catch that puck and win the game, it's not just a player making a great save. It's about a group of kids from all over the country standing up and declaring: "This is who we are. This is who we choose to be. Win or lose (thankfully, they won) we stick together. No matter what (say it again with me now) Ducks Fly Together!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0RiiIRe4ig So what do you think readers? Is the list I compiled rousing enough, or is there a moment missing that should have made the cut? Let me know in the comment section below.

Raymond Woods is too busy watching movies to give you a decent bio. If he wasn't too busy watching movies and reading books about movies and listening to podcasts about movies, this is what he'd tell you. "I know more about film than you. Accept this as a fact and we might be able to talk."
