A sharp and satirical answer to the conservative right-wing cops that plagued much of American cinema in the 70's and 80's (hello Dirty Harry), Robocop comes exactly as advertised. Part man, part machine, Robocop is the result of the brutal murder by a seedy gang of Alex Murphy, a veteran police officer by. What remains of Murphy is harvested and thus Robocop is born. Robocop can personally deal with all the violent crime in the city by following four directives, one of which is secret: serve the public trust, protect the innocent and uphold the law. A viciously violent movie, but Paul Verhoeven's cult classic is deceptively deep as it battles themes such as identity and capitalism through its eponymous character.
