10 Greatest Movie Teasers That Used Original Footage

9. Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Terminator 2 Teaser Trailer
Paramount

Friday the 13th Part VIII's teaser starts off relatively harmless. With relaxing music as well as a lone man looking towards the New York skyline, you might think this is an advertisement for the Big Apple. The soothing footage soon takes a turn for the worse as the man is revealed to be Jason Voorhees. We then get snippets of New York citizens screaming in terror, ranging from the homeless to the subway riders.

Jason Takes Manhattan's trailer promised audiences that Voorhees would paint the town red and cause all sorts of mayhem. Whether it's terrorizing Times Square, Madison Square Garden, and other New York landmarks, the prospect of seeing Jason in the city seemed like a fun idea.

Instead, the movie spends 2/3 of its runtime on a boat while barely featuring Manhattan at all. To say that the picture was a disappointment would be a massive understatement.

Part VIII's poor reception would put the series on ice and is considered one of the weakest Friday the 13th movies of all time. One contributing factor is the film's failure to live up to the expectations set by this teaser.
